SANDS OF TIME

Why oh why do the Sands of Time,
Wash away before our eyes,
The things that we cherish most?

And who is He!
To decide for me,
What can stay and what must go?

That’s when the Darkness soon surrounds me!
It grinds and mashes on my bones.
Very soon I come to realize,
The Sands of Time is at my toes.

Waves of sorrow swiftly crashing,
Sinking deeper with every lashing,
How can I possibly stay afloat?

I’m so tired now,
I need some rest,
I give up now,
I did my best,
Let the Sands of Time come get me.

Yet before I draw that breath,
The very last,
The mark of Death,
One more thought comes into mind.

Why oh why!
Do the Sands of Time,
Wash away before our eyes,
The things that we cherish most?

And who is He!
To decide for me,
What can stay and what must go?

That’s when the Lightness soon surrounds me!
It uplifts and heals my Soul,
Very soon I come to realize,
The Sands of Time is the final goal.

A soft and sensual whisper,
Speaks directly into my heart,

“Please just know for certain,
This was the plan from the very start.
I am sorry dear,
Please forgive me,
I know you long to hug and hold her,
Yet everything is ok now,
That’s what she would have told you.”

I’m so glad now,
I can rest,
I feel stronger,
What comes next?
Let the Sands of Time come show me.

INTERPRETATION

This poem was written for the poet’s aunt and uncle who were newly grieving the loss of their beloved daughter. This poem portrays a confused and heartbroken mother questioning God for the premature loss of her daughter, only to be ultimately comforted by the daughters Soul, through God, directly into the heart of the now rejuvenated and uplifted mother.
