DESCRIPTION

Flowered Cosmos is a color pencil drawing on medium tooth vellum paper. The work was done using a circular burnishing lawyering technique with minor engraving for additional highlights. Approximately 11 hours of creation.

INTERPRETATION

Flowered Cosmos was drawn by Shawn Malzahn as a birthday gift for his father while incarcerated during the summer of 2020. The Peony flower generally symbolizes love, honor, happiness, wealth, romance, and beauty. The peony is traditionally given on special occasions as an expression of goodwill, best wishes, and joy. Combined with the cosmic background, this piece says: “May all good and beautiful things come your way in the Universe”.
