BELIEFS ARE LIKE BLUEPRINTS
Something to think about...
Beliefs are the generalizations we make up about ourselves, other people, and the world in general. Beliefs act as self-fulfilling prophecies that influence all our behaviors. In other words, they shape us, because over time, beliefs build up a "big picture" in our minds about what the world is like based on our past experiences, and that big picture determines how we respond to the circumstances we find ourselves dealing with in our day to day living. Simply put, our behaviors are organized around beliefs. We usually think of beliefs in the terms of creeds or doctrines, but in the most basic sense, a belief is any guiding principle, dictum, faith or passion that can provide meaning and direction in life. Beliefs are the prearranged, organized filters that our perceptions of the world revolve around. Beliefs are the "compass and maps" that guide us toward our goals in life, and give us the surety to know we’ll get there if we follow their instruction. Belief is nothing but a state of mind, an internal representation of reality that governs our behavior. Beliefs are pre-formed, programmed approaches to perception that filter our internal communication to ourselves in a consistent manner. Most people treat a belief as if it’s a thing, when in reality, it is actually a feeling of certainty about something that compels us to take action of some sort. So we must ask ourselves, how are the beliefs that we hold on to helping us? and how are the beliefs that we hold on to hindering us?
