THE GREAT REMEMBRANCE
Poetry by Shawn Malzahn
So what am I? I wonder daily.
Perhaps I’m God yet forgot, just maybe.
For where was I before this birth?
Before Sun met Moon with Mother Earth?
For where was I before the Void?
Before Time met Space and Matter deployed?
They say that nothing can be created.
They say that nothing can truly die.
Thus what Is, Was, and Will be,
None other than the Great Cosmic.
Now I remember! I rest in Peace.
INTERPRETATION
This poem was written as an addition to be read in the eulogy of the poets late cousin. The message of this poem was designed to inspire those who were still grieving the loss of their loved one with the idea that nothing is ever truly “lost”. The poem was designed to appear as if it were written directly by the poets cousin himself in the afterlife upon having a divine revelation as to the essential nature of what he truly is, was, and always will be.
